My Top Ways To Help Fight Humidity for Natural Hair

Hey Ladies, Its about to be that time again. Its starting to get hot and hazy out and you know those summer days and nights when its crazy humid outside. During those times, nature does not want to cooperate with your natural hair. Then we get the "FRIZZ". Here are some of my top ways to help fight those humid days and prevent frizz....

DON'T FIGHT NATURE

As much as we want to ladies, we can't fight with nature. When its humid its humid. My advice...don't waste your valuable time at night or in the morning prepping a twistout that will end in disaster. Instead work with your hair and find ways and styles that will work for you and last throughout that day or even week.

FIXED STYLES

Fixed styling is my go to when these hot and hazy days come along. I love them for two reasons. One your hair depending on the style you choose will be protected and two it can last for up to a week or weeks depending on how neat its done. Fixed styles can be anything from braids, twists,  and flat twist up do's. Below is some examples of styles that I've done that will protect your hair from the humidity and that can last up to a week or two:

                                                                The Fro Hawks

Whether or not you decide to leave your out in middle or create a style where your hair is protected, Fro Hawks are so cool and easy to work with.

PIN UP STYLES

Pin up styles are the best. Not only does it protect your hair for the humidity, but they are so versatile. There are so many styles you can come up with that are sexy and sassy and you don't have to ever worry about frizz. Whether you want to use your own hair or add hair if you like.

WASH N' GO

Wash n' go's are a great way to fight humidity. Your hair will be in its natural state and depending on what product you use, you will not have to worry about your curls dropping or your hair becoming frizzy. I prefer to have my hair up in one when I do a wash n' go. Reason being is the "Shrinkage".  For those who wish to do wash n' go's (expect shrinkage).

PRODUCT HUNT

Finding an ingredient or product that aides in de-frizzing or weather proofing your hair can be helpful. If you have an event or special occasion to go to and you want to have your hair out there are plenty of products that you can apply to your hair after you condition, before styling, and afterwards. Make sure you find products that have protein and that are also sulfate-free. The protein will actually aide in de-frizzing hair by keeping hair follicles in places. Sulfate dries out your hair which will make you more adaptable to frizz.

AVOID SHAMPOOING REGULARLY

The more your hair is conditioned the better. note that the more moisture your hair has the less it will frizz up. Avoid shampooing your hair regularly. When you shampoo your hair it not only cleans your hair, but it strips all the moisture and natural oils from it. My advice is the co-wash whenever you want to change styles. You will still retain moisture in your hair.

USE A LEAVE-IN-CONDITIONER

Always remember that natural hair/curly hair loves moisture. Apply a leave-in-conditioner to your hair after co-washing or when your shampoo and condition your hair. It will give your hair added moisture and will help with frizz.
