Key Tips To Healthier Eating and Weight Loss

Since August of 2011 until present, I have lost up to 27lbs. Besides having a weekly workout regimen, my true "secret" to all my weight loss is healthier eating. Here are some key tips that help me tremendously on my journey to weight loss, health and fitness:

     PORTION SIZE

How much you eat is just as important as what you eat. Portion size plays a crucial role in weight loss. On average you should have about 5-6 small meals a day. You should invest in a food scale it will help with portion sizing. Another factor is to always include more protein in your meals than fats and carbs. Never eat and drink at the same time. By doing that you will not receive the full amount of nutrients from your meal.

      DEALING WITH FOOD CRAVINGS

Some research shows that in women food cravings are linked to hormonal imbalances in the body, especially during a woman's menstrual cycle. I myself get a craving for "sweets" around that time of the month. Instead of reaching for the donuts or ice cream, I found a great alternate for my sweet tooth.....FRUITS. It helps with the cravings and gives you added vitamins and minerals that junk food can't give you. Fruits are also low in calories and fat. Its a win win situation. Some examples of fruits that I would eat are mango, pineapple, kiwi, apples and the list goes on. What is also a huge benefit, with fruits you do not have to limit the amount you consume...its all goodness going into your body.

    READING NUTRITION FACTS

When shopping for foods I recommend that you always read the nutrition facts.  When shopping for food the first thing we look at on the nutrition facts are calories. Although watching your calories are important, you should always analyze the total amount of Fat, Total Carbohydrate, and Protein when purchasing foods. Burning fat is an essential part of weight loss. You should always make sure when purchasing food items that it doesn't contain more fat than protein. Also remember that carbs that are not burned in your body will be stored as fat. So take into consideration how many carbs you want to consume in one serving. Ingredients play a major role as well. Try to avoid foods that contain
high fructose corn syrup and corn starch. Its processed and no good for your body.

    NEVER DEPRIVE YOURSELF

Its the holidays and we all have foods that we like to eat that we know that will not aide us in weight loss. During my journey I would have a "cheat day" every week. My cheat day would consist of foods that I love such as shrimp alfredo or cheese cake. I would only eat these foods on that day and that day only. It won't alter your weight loss progress dramatically and you won't deprive yourself of the foods that you enjoy eating.

    WILLPOWER

Always remember ladies, that the mind is a powerful thing. Self discipline and self control has to come from within you. Once you start to see results, your willpower will keep on increasing. Always remember that anything good in life doesn't come without a fight. There might be set backs, that's just life, but always keep a positive attitude. Take any negative energy and use it as "fuel" to get further to your goals.
